The Ghetto Super Fly is made to look like a mantis shrimp. The body is rectagular like the mantis shrimp. Mantis shrimp also have a rectagular body shape. They were made for bonefish, but this fly has proven to be one of the most versitile flats flies on the market. It has caught numerous species from across the country to include tarpon, catfish, bass, carp, bonefish, trevally, golden trevally and etc.
Size 4 hooks Ghetto Super Fly (1.5 grams)
The weight of a fly matters! Size 4 is Ghetto Super Flies weigh 1.5 grams. This is a heavy fly designed to swim hook up and sink fast. Perfectly designed for fly fishing the flats in Maui, Lanai, Kauai, Oahu, and Hawaii island. Great in high current, deeper water, surf zones, and when fishing from a flats boat. This fly works in any condition, but because of its weight you may have to cast further in front fish in skinny water. Smaller flies equals a small splash. Bigger flies equals a bigger splash. Fish get spooked the distance varies on conditions and area.
Size 6 Ghetto Super Fly (.7-.9 grams)
These smaller flies are great for when you have to cast closer to the bonefish. When it’s low light and low visibility, change up your heavier fly to the size 6 Ghetto Super Fly. On low light, low visibility days the fish will be within rod leggy and you will have to place the fly in front the fish without spooking it. The hook size is smaller, so make sure you set the hook.
When operating this fly make sure this fly is constantly moving. Do not stop the fly when the fish is behind it. You will need to speed up or slow down the rate of retrieve depending on how the fish is reacting.
In theory you want contrast between the fly and the bottom. When you are fishing sandy areas (white sand) use the brown color. When fishing darker bottoms, use the beige color.
